QRPp 1000 MPW Award

Re-building my 30 year old QRPp Swr/Power Meter

QRPp / Putting The Thrill Back Into Ham Radio

Just for the fun of it, I like to chase the 1000 MPW awards. I've been chasing the 1000 MPW awards since 2023, although I've been doing QRPp since the 80's. Overall...sometimes you win, sometimes not. It's all in the game.

This is my personal "Wall of Fame" and with now over 150 X 1000 MPW awards achieved,  I will not hang any any of these certificates on my shack wall. There are just too many and its still growing.  So I've made the page to show my Best Distanced achieved. This way I can look at it once and a while and others can too if they wish.

Originally I was using my Kenwood TS-140 which could go down to a few milliwatts, but now with my Icom 7300, it doesn’t go any lower than 1 watt output. This means I have to use an RF attenuator between the TX and my ATU to get down to milliwatt levels of RF going into my antenna.

While my best miles/watt achievements are not nearly world records, the next time I sense a great band opening, I'm going to try to break my own records.

The first successful 1000 MPW award got me just as excited as my first ever ham QSO 30 years ago. QRPp does put the thrill back into the hobby. Here is my “Best distance” log for my QRPp. (1 watt or less)

Below is my Best QRPp distances yet using less than 1 watt.

9785 Miles Per Watt
